Lyft's adventure on Angel Island

Scenario

Lyft wanted to say thank-you to some of their hard-working employees. Did they give out fruit bouquets and expired gift cards? Heck no, techno! They called up The Go Game. We chartered a fanciful yacht out to Angel Island in San Francisco, and let their prized employees loose on the gorgeous scenery, along with cell phones & a sense of adventure. Teams explored the beach and historical buildings, staged recreations of famous video games, and battled each other head to head for the right to claim first place.

Primary Goals

  • Reward the IT team for the major strides they made to their platform in the last 6 months
  • Have fun!

The Game

This was a pretty special game. We helped Lyft charter a boat out to gorgeous Angel Island about 45 minutes from shore. Go Game smartphones in hand, some 80 players headed out on foot to scour the grounds. They prowled the square-mile island in search of our Shakespearean actors, while performing outrageous creative video challenges and battling other teams head to head. Teams were rewarded for their hard work with a hilarious judging round and valuable prizes (like our famous rubber chickens).

Outcome

It’s not every day that we get to sail our software and silliness over to an entire island (!), so we were excited to spend the afternoon with Lyft, island scavenger-hunt style. As one of San Francisco's fastest growing companies, they had a lot to celebrate. They wanted to reward their IT department for their amazing work, with an appropriately amazing adventure. And that’s just what they got. Those techies took the island by storm in an afternoon of rip-roaring fun.

“The Go Game delivered an ace game with John at the helm. Even the most cynical of the IT department found themselves highly engaged. Can we take over Alcatraz next time? ”
